Where is my winter?

So... it is now December, and although we have seen frost and ice, we still have had no measurable snow! This is unacceptable nature. The top two pictures were taken last Friday of ice on the top of the pond at Baltimore Woods. The last is from Beaver Lake.

This chunk was about 8 inches from tip to tail, there were hundreds of these in the pond.

This is a little scary, thousands of birds on such a small lake put a large nutrient load on this system. Unfortunately, many people do not like large amounts of birds on more popular bodies of water and so, the birds are chased to these smaller more easily affected areas.

Day Hike

I went for a hike today at Baltimore Woods near Marcellus New York. It was a short one only a few miles. I always try to keep a camera on me, to catch that brief moment in the woods. This is a picture of a woodpecker making his way to some delicious bugs.

Autumns Waining

November is here and although the warm weather has been a treat, I can only hope that snow is quickly approaching. I am part of a small portion of the New York population that openly invites harsh weather to our region. As much as I love the changing of the leaves and the cooling of weather, I also await winter with open arms. To pay tribute to this beautiful fall, I have added pictures from this time of year, and I hope to replace them soon with ones of white and cold.
View from the boat on Canonsville Resevoir, this is where I got my first picture of a Bald Eagle

Tripods allow for great stills, and also to help give a subject among the leaves.

Jones Wedding

We are gathered here again to witness... an Alice and Wonderland themed wedding! Today I shot the ceremony and reception of Chris Jones and his beautiful bride Nicole Rojek. It was a wonderful treat to be part of this wedding. Between the wacky hats, neat decorations and wonderful costumes, participation by guests in this trip to Wonderland was unanimous. The decorations were something of a marvel, between the enlarged playing cards on the walls and ceiling, the teacups with flowers on every table and the paper lanterns on the floors for aisles this was a wondrous adventure to send these two into their life together.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Jones.

New Addition

Around 3am I went for a walk, stepping heavily and loudly in the misty morning air as is my norm. This was when I felt something lightly touch my leg with an associated mew. I looked down to see the two eyes of a shabby shaking kitten. Startled I talked to the small beast, kneeling to pet and further examine him. Within a few minutes I was walking again, slowly. The youngster followed me home where I dried him off and gave him a compliment of treats and drink. Unfortunately thanks to the hour and the almost certain confrontation between him and our older cat, I had to leave him outside. When my parents awoke early this morning they took the final step and brought him in. So for the rest of the day we tried (unsuccessfully so far) to get our older cat to be understanding and accept him.

The situation as of right now: He is sleeping in one room while the older cat who is usually antisocial clings to me in another. With some luck and lots of treats young fuzzball (as we are calling him now) will become part of the family. Alas however the search for his parents is ongoing, either way we will make sure he is safe and warm, either with us or with his original family.
